چکیده

Abstraet--Sclerotized oothecae from four species of cockroaches, Periplaneta americana, P. fuliginosa, Blatta orientalis and Blattella germanica, were examined by solid-state 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance and chemical analyses. The oothecae were composed of protein, water, calcium oxalate, diphenolic compounds, lipid, and uric acid. Calcium oxalate was the major soluble component in egg cases of P. americana, P. fuliginosa, and B. orientalis. Oothecae of B. germanica had approx. 10-fold less calcium oxalate and extractable diphenols than the other species. The major dipbenolic compound extracted in cold dilute perchloric acid was 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid. Exuviae from P. americana, B. germanica, Gromphadorhina portentosa, Blaberus craniifer, and Leucophaea maderae also were examined by solid-state ~3C-NMR. They contained protein, dipbenols, and lipid, as well as chitin, which accounted for 30-42% of the organic content, depending upon the species.

Solid-state 2-D double cross polarization magic angle spinning N C NMR spectroscopy on degraded algal residues

Solid-state 2-D N C NMR spectroscopy was applied for the ®rst time to reveal the chemical nature of nitrogen in degraded algae. Cross peaks indicating coupling between C and N were detected only for carboxyl/amide-C and Nsubstituted-alkyl-C. Cross peaks correlating N intensity to sp-C and supporting the presence of heteroaromatic-N were not observed. The Bloch decay N NMR spectrum demonstrated ...

Solid State Process for Preparation of Nickel Oxide Nanoparticles: Characterization and Optical Study

In the present work, we report preparation of NiO nanoparticles with well-defined plate morphology by solid-state reaction of NiCl2∙6H2O and the Schiff base ligand N,N′-bis-(3-methoxysalicylidene)benzene-1,4-diamine), as a novel precursor via solid state thermal decomposition method. This method is a simple and environmentally friendly for preparing t...

The structural basis for water exchange between the female cockroach (Blattella germanica) and her ootheca.

Female German cockroaches usually carry their oothecae until they hatch. The success of embryogenesis may be dependent on the water-balance relationship between females and their developing oothecae. Oothecae detached from females early in embryogenesis often fail to develop, especially in low-humidity environments. Experiments reported here using tritiated water have confirmed the transport of...

Investigation of molecular motion of Cl-adamantane in the nanoprous zeolite by 13C NMR dipolar dephasing and variable contact time measurements

Dipolar-dephasing method provides some information about the strength of dipolar coupling in solids. Dipolar dephasing technique measures the time for a polarized carbon nucleus to lose its magnetization once the proton locking field is terminated. The dynamics of guest molecules adsorbed within the cavities and channels of nonporouszeolite strongly depend on the structure and chemical composit...
